Irish UNDOF troops managed to free Filipino troops trapped in two UN positions on Saturday morning.

The Filipino troops were trapped in two UNDOF positions on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights following Syrian rebel attacks on the Quneitra crossing, which they captured.

The Filipino troops had decided during the attack to lot lay down their weapons, and to not abandon their posts, despite the advances of the Syrian rebels.

The UN troops managed to escape to Israel on Saturday morning.
