Former Supreme Court Justice Eliyahu Winograd, z’l, passed away on the Sabbath at the age of 91.
The elderly former judge was known especially for having headed the state investigation into the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
“Judge Eliyahu Winograd was a legal beacon whose contribution to the security of Israel was enormous,” Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman tweeted. “The commission reports he led will continue to guide us also in the future.”
Justice Winograd was a Sabra, born in Tel Aviv in 1926 before the rebirth of the State of Israel. He earned his license to practice law in 1952, was appointed a judge in the Tel Aviv District Court in 1975 and within the decade was appointed President of the Court.
