The Iranian regime has just test-fired another missile this weekend — this time a medium-range ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple warheads — according to a report from the U.S. State Department.
“The missile has a range that allows it to strike parts of Europe and anywhere in the Middle East,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Saturday.
The test launch violates UN Security Council resolution 2231 that bans Iran from undertaking “any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology . . .” Pompeo noted.
“As we have been warning for some time, Iran’s missile testing and missile proliferation is growing,” Pompeo said.
“We are accumulating risk of escalation in the region if we fail to restore deterrence,” he warned.
“We condemn these activities, and call upon Iran to cease immediately all activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”
Last weekend, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani called Israel a “cancerous tumor” and again called for the destruction of the Jewish State at the 32nd International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.
“Israel knows very well how to defend itself from the murderous Iranian regime,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in response to Rouhani’s words, in a post on the Twitter social networking site.
“Rouhani’s slander which calls for the destruction of Israel proves again why the nations of the world need to join the sanctions against the Iranian terrorist regime which threatens them.”
