In the highly competitive world of culinary arts, the challenges to the kosher cuisine chef are even more daunting than others, requiring great creativity and the capacity for improvisation.
Enter Chef Sara Black, 33, an Orthodox Jewish woman who has met these multiple challenges, and who, after years of hard work, has conquered the peak of culinary success. A year ago, Sara became the Executive Chef at the Mount Zion boutique hotel in Jerusalem. With that move, Sara became the first woman to serve as head chef in an Israeli hotel.
Sara was born in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem, to a British and American couple, the eldest of ten children. She now lives in Efrat, Gush Etzion, where she raises her 13-year-old daughter and runs her own business offering kosher catering and private chef services worldwide.
She began her career as a breakfast chef for the Shalom Plaza hotel in Neve Ilan, and from there moved up the professional ladder until she gained enough experience to take the qualification exams for chefs given by the Ministry of Industry—which she passed with distinction. An authorized chef, Sara has completed additional courses and internships at Michelin starred restaurants in France and Europe , then went on to gain rich experience, both in Israel and abroad, in making popular dishes perfectly kosher.
Among her clients you’ll find many diplomats and other public Figures, including IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Ganz, former Minister, MK Eli Yishai (Shas), the Grand Rebbe of Belz, former Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yona Metzger, Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu zt”l, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin E.
