Border Agent: Illegal Immigrants Bringing Diseases To A City Your Way
An agent stationed at the McAllen, Texas, Border Patrol station told this radio host Sunday that diseases carried by illegal aliens crossing the Rio Grande are “slipping through the cracks” and will soon begin affecting the entire nation, possibly even “coming to your town.”
Thirteen-year Border Patrol veteran Chris Cabrera is also vice president of the Local 3307 chapter of the National Border Patrol Council, the exclusive representative of approximately 17,000 agents and support personnel assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Cabrera made his comments on “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” on New York’s AM 970 The Answer when asked if the recent surge of illegal immigrants – both unaccompanied minors and adults – were being fully screened for disease by doctors before being released into the wider U.S. population.
“It’s not always the ideal medical care,” Cabrera confessed, “and a lot of it is slipping through the cracks. It’s kind of alarming, seeing as we toured that facility less than a month ago and they assured us that they had everything in order, that something like this wouldn’t happen. And sure enough, it fell through the cracks.
“We’re not set up for this, and we’re inviting more problems,” he said. “The thing is, these [illegal immigrants] aren’t staying down here in the border region. This problem isn’t contained in the border areas. [They] are coming in here, they’re going north, and it’s going to affect the entire country. It’s going to affect the New Yorks, the Washington, D.C.s, the Chicago, the Dallas, even the Kansas, the Iowa, that’s where they’re headed, and that’s where it’s headed.”
Cabrera was asked to clarify that he was talking about medical issues spreading to places like Chicago, New York City and Kansas.
“Medical problems, gang members that we’re releasing, they’re going to these cities, they’re not staying down here,” Cabrera insisted. “So these problems are going to be coming to your town.”
The Border Patrol agent suggested immigrants were crossing the border believing, “Obama will take care of us.”
“They do have a belief that 1) we’re going to give them a permit to go past the checkpoint and go further into the United States and 2) they believe that the government will take care of them,” Cabrera said. “There is some sense of entitlement there.”
Cabrera also said earlier government estimates that the U.S. could see as many as 60,000 unaccompanied minors cross the border illegally from Mexico in 2014 were way off. In fact, he said, the U.S. has already eclipsed the 60,000 estimate.
