In the final analysis, this imperative task will be preeminently intellectual, not narrowly political, and will require complex analytic calculations at the very highest order of concentration and difficulty. Israel requires not obedient bureaucrats and empty witticisms – the endless mainstays of American public life – but authentic thinkers.
