And then there was his admonition to senior Iranian military officials: “Given our vast maritime borders and the enemy’s huge investments in this area, our armed forces should continuously improve their readiness, irrespective of political calculations…. Peacetime offers great opportunities for our armed forces to…build up on preemptive capacities.”
During his initial campaign for president in 2008 and since taking office, Mr. Obama has signaled his desire to restore the relationship between the U.S. and Iran that existed during the reign of the shah. But he should listen to what the ayatollah and his negotiators are saying. They really have little respect for weakness. And if he is not careful, we will all wake up one morning facing a bellicose Iran armed with nuclear weapons. And what then?
