We applaud Mayor Eric Adams for following through on one of the major commitments he made in The Jewish Press interviews during the mayoral campaign: He has just announced that he has selected two Orthodox Jews to high-ranking positions in his new administration.
Menashe Shapiro will serve as deputy chief of staff, while Fred Kreizman will be the commissioner of the mayor’s community affairs unit.
Most recently, the administrations of Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio notoriously lacked any Orthodox Jews in senior positions, and this lack, given the available talent pool in our community, was an unmistakable slap at our community.
Messrs. Shapiro and Kreizman are well qualified for their new posts and will serve the city well. Not to put too fine a point on it, while entirely meritorious, their appointments also send an important message about inclusion.
