In fact, there is nothing to suggest that Mr. Trump doesn’t understand the risks of non-disclosure, and the choice should be his as to whether to assume those risks. So why is the Times seemingly so intent on forcing him to disclose his tax information rather than simply reporting on his refusal and allowing the voters to decide how much it matters to them?
Actually, the public doesn’t appear to share the media’s obsession with the minutiae of a candidate’s tax returns: even as the issue has been stirred up, Mr. Trump has risen in polls measuring his standing against Hillary Clinton in head to head match-ups.
And of course there has never been this level of inquisitiveness on the part of journalists regarding the glaring lack of public information concerning Barack Obama’s background. To this day, nearly none of his official educational, medical, and financial records have been released – with nary a whimper of concern or disapproval from our all-too-transparent media moralists.
