The Angel of Death came on that Shabbos/Shavuos day to do G-d’s bidding and was kept at bay by David’s incessant learning of the Holy Scriptures. In order to disrupt his prey and to get on with his calling the malach hamaves vigorously jiggled the trees in the garden until the rattling made such a tumult that David was forced to step outside to trace the origin of the racket. In doing so he lost his balance and crumpled to the ground. Since the lifeless body could not be moved during Shabbos mighty eagles soared to the spot where King David lay and spread their broad wings to span a shade covering to protect the body from the sun?s scorching rays.
With Mashiach’s arrival Hashem will sit in Gan Eden ahead of our forefathers and the righteous. He will bring forth fruit from the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden and wine misheshes yemei bereishis (from when the world was first created). Following the seudah (feast) all of Bnei Yisrael will honor Hashem with birchas hamazon (grace after meals). G-d in turn will proffer the honor upon the angel Michael who will cede to the angel Gavriel who will relinquish the honor to our Avos (Patriarchs) Abraham Isaac and Jacob. They in turn will confer distinction on Moses and Aaron who will honor the Elders who will then pay homage to King David declaring The king of the earth should bless the King of the Heavens! They will hand the kos (goblet) of two-hundred and twenty-one quarts of wine to David who will steadfastly proclaim Kos yeshuas esa u’beshaim Hashem ekra – I raise the cup of salvation and call upon the name of Hashem (Psalm 116:13).
May we be deemed worthy to witness such a glorious phenomenon in our day.
