Yes To An ‘Official’ Jewish State
Re “What’s Wrong With a ‘Jewish State’?” – editorial, Nov. 28):
The most important thing for Israelis now in the face of the barrage of terrorism and the ongoing diplomatic war against Israel is national unity and a deep pride in being citizens of a Jewish state
Are those members of Knesset who are so opposed to legislation officially recognizing Israel as a Jewish state and its implications for “democracy” equally worried about the official Church of England? Have they given a moment’s thought to the Scandinavian countries’ Lutheran churches? Are they concerned about Arab states with names like “Islamic Republic of…”?
It is high time we all realize and acknowledge that Israel is the national homeland of the Jews. Even journalists who work for media outlets not known as being particularly pro-Israel routinely refer to Israel as “the Jewish state” in their articles. So why do so many Israelis seem to have a problem with the government of Israel making that designation official – specially when Israeli leaders have vowed that everyone in Israel will always be able to practice the religion of his or her choice?

Cold Water Solution
If politicians and other bleeding hearths need help stopping mobs of rioters and criminals engaging in looting and burning down cities, I have a perfect solution.
I will not go as far as to suggest shooting rioters dead as it is done in many other countries, but a few water cannons directing a steady and forceful stream of cold water at the mob would be very effective, especially in the middle of November.
