A million Jews led by the most respected rabbis and Torah scholars in Israel coming together as one to say Tehillim would be a positive sanctification of the Divine Name. The spiritual power it would generate is enormous. This is a momentous opportunity to kick-start the unity of the Jewish people.
If Torah-observant Jews can come together and their leaders show true leadership – not of little grouplets but of the entire Jewish people – then maybe the non-observant will begin to join us.
The ideal time for something like this would be the shloshim of those killed in Mumbai. But if this is too soon for practical reasons, then surely another good time can be found.
Mumbai was an atrocity too far. Let us make it an opportunity to turn the tables on our enemies. It is up to us to act rather than just sit back and wait for the Almighty or expect a weak, secular Israeli government to do anything.
If we fail to build achdut at this moment, we need only look in the mirror when we want to find someone to blame.
