Asked if his piece was “timed in a manner to remind voters in Israel of the relationship between Netanyahu and Hagee,” Wilson said, “My primary goal was to alert Jewish Americans, who might be paying especial attention because of the election in Israel, to the often overlooked but very dark underside of Christian Zionism, as represented by John Hagee – whose CUFI lobbies 24/7 to win the allegiance of American Jews.”
On supporting Israel, Wilson said, “we can take John Hagee at his word, that he supports Israel for theological reasons, and within the context of an eschatological scheme in which Israel is mostly destroyed, and most Jews both worldwide and in Israel killed, in an end-time conflict that will result in the remaining “remnant” of Jews on earth being converted to Christianity.”
Wilson does admit that has misquoted Hagee in the past and points to a 2011 post on his blog where he “apologize to readers” as well as addressed Morgenstern’s editorial.
