In this particular election, voters face two distinct choices: either Israel stands up for itself and repels the onslaught of the left that is personified and led by President Obama who wants to remain dependent on him, or we capitulate and return to the days of forced evacuations, withdrawals, retreats and loss. It is that simple. It really is Right versus the left.
In his speech before Congress, Prime Minister Netanyahu said something that continues to reverberate in my mind: Israel will “act alone” if need be. I would have continued:
“The Jewish people are charged with making the world a better place for all of mankind. It is in our DNA. And it is what makes our nation unique. The decision of the United States of America to be the first nation to officially recognize Israel, has fueled the ability of the Jewish people in the Jewish State to pursue greatness – even at the expense of the pursuit of our happiness. We are a nation with too many orphans and victims. And yet we continue. We are infatuated with Making Things Better. And we will not allow – we cannot allow – that unbridled spirit to be threatened by our enemies that pursue and export terror. Standing Alone is not something that we want to do, but it may be what we are destined to do.”
An ancient Book records a prophecy that Israel is “a nation that will stand alone amongst the nations of the world.” So be it. We cannot and we shall not fear the day when we are truly independent from the graces of the league of nations (pardon the pun). And we cannot fear placing our faith where it should be placed: on He that secures us, and on He that gives us the creativity that defines our people.
Now, if only I can find a skyscraper big enough to put my alternative ending to Bibi’s speech and my version of an election ad. If not in Israel during this quintessential exercise in democracy, then maybe on the Washington Monument? President Obama will love that.
