I continue to learn about the issues affecting the Jewish community and I make an effort to attend as many community events as possible. The Jewish and Caribbean communities of my district have always had a great relationship. Upon assuming office I assembled an advisory board of clergy, neighborhood leaders, and constituents including, among other respected voices, Rabbi Aryeh Ralbag of Young Israel of Avenue K. They are my important resources for understanding the entire community.

As the recently elected member of the New York State Assembly representing the 42nd Assembly District (Flatbush/ Midwood -Brooklyn), I am thankful for the opportunity to serve a diverse community of various races and religions.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn with strong traditional values, and am proud to be the first Haitian-American woman elected in New York City.

So the next time you hear someone say this assemblymember is biased, I would ask that you encourage him or her to get the facts straight and not rush to judgment.

I am a friend of the community, not a foe.
