We are supposed to imitate God. If He blesses us by turning “His countenance” toward us, should we not do the same for each other? This is how we will bring peace to each other and to the world.
We must pour our energy into this task. If we don’t work on these things with all our heart, then how will we survive in the days when God, “[inflicts] vengeance upon the nations that do not listen” (Micah 5:14)?
This is not a humble world. It is full of arrogance. But we are different. “Let one sit in solitude and be submissive…. Let him put his mouth to the dust – there may yet be hope” (Lamentations 3:28-29). We are the nation that is compared to dust. From the dust we will arise.
As we sing every Friday night in Lechah Dodi: “Shake off the dust, arise! Don your splendid clothes, My people. Through [Moshiach] the son of Yishai….” The City will be rebuilt in purity and splendor. The Children will come home, and God will wipe the tears from the eyes of all those who have wept for Yerushalayim.
“When God will return the captivity of Zion, we will be like dreamers. Then our mouth will be filled with laughter and our tongue with glad song” (Psalm 126).
Soon, soon. We will see it with our own eyes.
