To summarize, in the pursuit of happiness and contentedness one should avoid comparing oneself to others’ expectations and the pursuit of fun. One should engage in self-discipline and gratitude. Gratitude, the adage says, is a matter of attitude. A different adage (which I heard from Rav Pam, zt”l, although I doubt he originated it) opines, “Everyone is looking for the city of Fun, but they don’t realize that it’s in the state of Mind.”
