Second, and by far more important, it reinvigorated my already well-ingrained dictum to trust in Hashem. He in His infinite wisdom (and no small measure of humor) will always come through for us.
Yesterday was another heartening day, one that provided me with yet another unexpected, but much-needed boost to my mood and self-esteem.
Totally out of the blue, I found a reply in my inbox regarding a submission I had sent in months earlier to a different publication. The editor explained that hers and the other well-known magazine share what I decided to whimsically term a mutually beneficial “free-trade-agreement.” If a submission one receives does not work for that publication, but may conceivably work for the other, they might opt to pass it along to the sister magazine.
In this particular case it was no longer valid. After I had not heard back from the first publication, I took the liberty of submitting that article to my favorite U.S.-based frum newspaper/magazine, where it was accepted and assigned a publication date almost immediately.
So although the editor of the sister magazine was very disappointed that my story was no longer available, she invited me to submit future pitches to her directly. That and the overall positive tone of our e-mail exchange were just what the doctor ordered: a soothing balm for my bruised spirit and ego.
Did I wake up this morning ready to write the next bestselling novel? Hardly. I will have my hands full just following the age-old wisdom of “putting one foot in front of the other” and making it through “one day at a time.”
But, that is actually more than good enough, certainly for right now. Because I have no doubt whatsoever that the Master Maestro is holding my hand and helping me along, one faltering note and step at a time.
