Reb Tzadok of Lublin wrote (Otzer HaMachshavah, 178), “Korbanos are not a mitzvah; this is connected to what Rambam wrote in the Guide to the Perplexed… God does not get pleasure from korbanos. In regard to korbanos we do not say, ‘I will do God’s will,’ as we do with respect to other mitzvot. Rather according to the will and desire of people, so is the sacrifice. God gets pleasure, not from the sacrifice, but from our desire to give Him pleasure.”
As we read the book of Vayikra, may we merit understanding not just the process of the Temple service but its deeper meaning, and thus give “pleasure,” as it were, to G-d, may it come speedily in our days.
