A while late this friend called to say he received a job offer at exactly 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. After congratulating him I asked what the significance of the 7:59 p.m. was. His answer was in line with the demeanor and emunah he had displayed throughout this entire episode. He explained that June 17 was the last day of the Hebrew month. Given that sunset on that day occurred at exactly 8:31 p.m., his job offer was technically tendered during the very month in which he had insisted upon reciting Birchas HaChodesh with as much kavanah as possible. He concluded by saying that 7:59 p.m. was exactly 32 minutes prior to the end of the month and given that 32 is the gematria of lev, heart, he feels that if one’s heart is always reliant upon God, then God in return will always have his back.
My dear friends, the next time we recite Birchas HaChodesh, let us all ponder if investing an additional four minutes towards the welfare of our lives, as well as the lives of our loved ones, during an eis ratzon, is time well spent. Remember, only God knows what is truly within our hearts!
