A new observation point and a fruit tree orchard were established on Tuesday in the Tamar neighborhood of Efrat, Gush Etzion, in memory of Roey Weiser HY”D. The site, named Mitzpeh HaGevurah (“The Heroic Lookout”), honors Roey’s bravery and sacrifice.
Roey, a sergeant in the Golani Brigade and a resident of Efrat, was killed on October 7th, near the Erez Crossing at the Gaza border.
During the early morning attack, when Hamas terrorists infiltrated and overran his base, Roey first led the soldiers and others on his base to the safety of a secure room. He then regrouped and led his squad into battle. With only four soldiers at his side, using a tactically brilliant move he devised on the spot, Roey and his squad managed to eliminate over 150 Hamas terrorists—until he was shot and killed in battle. His heroic stand prevented Hamas from advancing further into Israel, saving countless lives, soldiers and civilians alike, including all those he managed to lead to the safe room.
The lookout and and orchard project was initiated by Roey’s parents, Naomi and Yami Weiser in partnership with Israel Trees. The initiative is dedicated to commemorating the 1,800 fallen, including the 600 soldiers of October 7th, by planting 18,000 fruit trees across the country.
