Last night several thousand Israelis showed up to commemorate the murder of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and you just couldn’t help but compare these humble numbers to the stunning show of force a week ago, at Rav Ovadia Yosef’s funeral. It’s true that one event was born by the fresh, hot feelings of the man’s passing, and the other was the 18th anniversary, but comparisons are not the thing of fairness.

Right now, on my radio, Kol Israel’s Aryeh Golan is trying to drum up the interest by raising the question of what would happen if a new peace deal were to be signed now – would there be another murder?

It’s nice, when your radio is pushing the hypothetical jihad…

Still, I find the fact that so few showed up for the Rabin thing extremely encouraging. I also happen to think that anyone who would scheme to remove Jewish families from their homes would be punished by Heaven – kindly look at the track record of Menachem Begin, Moshe Dayan, Ezer Weizman, Moshe Katzav, Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert, Shaul Mofaz, Dan Chalutz and so many more who uprooted settlements. Their old age shamed their youth and their fates were illness, demotion, public humiliation, criminal prosecution.

So, I’m having morbid thoughts this morning. It’s Aryeh Golan’s fault.
