Here’s President Barack Obama walking with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China on the grounds of the Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, Calif., June 8, 2013.

Do they really discuss the fate of the world? We’ll never know (not before they each sell the rights to their memoirs to Simon and Schuster).

Maybe they talk about how deeply frightened they are of making a mistake?

Can you imagine, finding yourself in a position where, no matter what you’ll say or do, any choice, any utterance – someone will die as a result. And that’s if you’re lucky and it’s a relatively small group of victims. Some days you make a decision and a village is wiped out. Other days entire regions are erased.

Sure, they can both be sociopaths and not give a damn. It may be the only way to deal with the demands of their mutual offices.

If it was me, I’d be cringing in a corner, afraid to tell anybody what to do. If I open my mouth – no one in Philadelphia gets cream cheese for a month. Why do I need this?
