On Wednesday, Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah spoke cheerfully on TV from his bunker—which he rarely leaves, for reasons that would become clear in a minute—and boasted that his people were behind last week’s bombing that wounded four Israeli soldiers.
Apparently, the soldiers were 400 yards or so inside Lebanon when the bombing occurred.
Nasrallah said that two bombs were detonated by remote control inside Lebanon, by his people, who were waiting in ambush.
He shouldn’t have boasted so much. He was really asking for it. I don’t have any proof to the widely held idea that the IDF was behind the following event in Beirut, but I suspect it was:
According to Reuters, on Thursday, a powerful car bomb struck the southern Beirut stronghold of Lebanon’s militant Hezbollah group on Thursday, killing 20 people, wounding 220 and trapping many others inside damaged buildings.
“I don’t know what happened. It’s as if we were struck by an earthquake,” one young man at the scene told Reuters, bleeding from a stomach wound.
He shouldn’t have boasted.
I never understood why President Bush opted for nation-building Iraq, and then President Obama decided to nation-build Afghanistan. Whatever for? First, it didn’t work in either case, and cost several trillion dollars. Second—the more effective response, when someone flies into your biggest city and hits the two tallest buildings there, is you send the airforce to his country and you bomb him back to the 12th century. Costs a lot less, but, in the end, fewer people die and the message is delivered:
You mess with us – we’ll kill your mama.
The bombing in Hezbollah City could also have been done by the Syrian Sunni rebels, who loath the Shiite Nasrallah for his military support for beleaguered Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
A Sunni Islamist group nobody has heard of before, calling itself the Brigades of Aisha, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Hezbollah center, and promised more operations against Hezbollah in a You Tube video.
Aisha was one of the prophet Mohammed’s wives. He married her at the age of six and consummated their marriage when she was nine years old.
