After a month of so of drought, on Friday night our prayers were answered and rain started coming down. According to our tradition, the definition of gishmay Bracha, rains of blessing, is rain that comes down Friday night, when everybody is home after shul and there’s nowhere to go. So these were truly blessed rains, and they came down throughout the Shabbat.
Nahariya is a beach town way up north, which has a tiny little river running through it, the Ga’aton, in a cement ditch reminiscent of the LA River, but much narrower. As you can see in the picture, the Ga’aton overflowed above the cement walls that are supposed to keep it from doing that, and several streets in Nahariya became small lakes.
