The caption below this image on the White House website reads:

President Barack Obama talks on the phone with President Vladimir Putin of Russia in the Oval Office, March 1, 2013. National Security Advisor Tom Donilon and Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken listen at right.

The question is, of course, how do we know the caption is not a lie? It could just as easily have read:

President Barack Obama orders pizza and ice cream from Pizzeria Paradiso on M St., which he intends to eat all by himself while National Security Advisor Tom Donilon and Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken are forced to watch.

And how do we even know that the man sitting with his back to us is Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken? Again, it’s all based on trust.

Here’s President Obama supposedly talking to Egypt’s President Mursi.

And here’s the president, with first lady Michelle Obama looking on, speaking with the father of Jessica Buchanan, an American aid worker who was rescued from Somali pirates after being held for three months.

I’ll bet she could go for pizza and ice cream.
