And it doesn’t look like the president was in a hurry to get up and go someplace else.

So, why didn’t he ask them to sit down?

I’m a huge fan of the West Wing series, and I don’t recall President Josiah Edward “Jed” Bartlet ever letting his staff to remain standing like that during meetings. He always invited them to sit down and be comfortable.
