When I was a kid, I thought “What did you learn in school today” was the ultimate in subversion. I was very young. And the version I grew up with was in Hebrew (see below), sung by Benny Amdursky and Israel Gurion. I only learned years later, in the 5th or 6th grade, that Pete Seeger also sang it.
Both lyrics were very funny and biting, and the Hebrew version, by Chaim Cheffer, was even funnier, because it took potshots at local stuff.
Pacifism and civil disobedience were so simple and obvious when I was growing up. And then I grew up.
