The brother in law of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was hospitalized Wednesday at Assuta Hospital in Tel Aviv, where he underwent a complex, emergency surgery to save his life, Walla reported. Assuta hospital doctors were able to remove a defect from his main artery and he is now recovering in the intensive care unit.
Despite the security situation and tensions between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Israel allowed the entry of the brother of Abbas’s wife for emergency surgery.
The operation took several hours, following which the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit. Security guards surround his area in the hospital and prevent ICU visitors from getting near his bed. An Assuta Hospital spokeswoman told Walla, “It is our policy not to respond to questions regarding hospital patients.”
