MK Ariel Attias (Shas) has resigned from the Knesset. According to a report on rotter.com, Attias promised to continue to support the party and to continue to work on behalf of Shas’ constituency from outside politics.
“I have had the honor to serve as an emissary of Rav Ovadia Yosef ztz”l and the Council of Torah Sages, and to serve our community as a representative of the Shas party in the Knesset, as minister of communications and minister of housing and construction,” Attias said in a statement. “I have tried to act to the best of my ability to serve the best interests of all Israelis and to fulfil the task that was entrusted to me.”
Attias said the decision to leave politics was made “after many years of intensive activity, day and night, on behalf of the public.”
“After the death of Rav Ovadia ztz”l, I need a break,” he said.
Attias will be replaced by Yoav Ben-Tzur.
