An estimated 1,000 people attended the Hebron funeral Saturday of Hamas terrorist Abdel Fattah al-Sharif, with shouts of ‘Allahu Akbar!’ the Islamist holy war cry, ‘God is Great.’
Al-Sharif was shot and killed by IDF Sgt. Elor Azariya in March after he had been disabled and was on the ground.
The body of an Arab woman who attempted to kill Border Guard Police officers at the Ras Bidu checkpoint north of Jerusalem last week was also returned to her family.
Acting as interim defense minister, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the return of both bodies to their families.
The terrorist and an accomplice had attacked two soldiers in the Hebron neighborhood of Tel Rumeida. One of the soldiers was stabbed. One of the terrorists was killed; al-Sharif was wounded and lying on the ground, wearing a bulky, zipped-up jacket. There was some discussion among those present as to what he was wearing under the jacket – on such a warm day, the outfit didn’t make sense, unless he was wearing an explosives belt.
Azariya walked up to the wounded terrorist, and shot him in the head, killing him and definitively ending the threat.
However, had he been wearing an explosives belt, what he did might also have triggered any explosives he might have been wearing.
Azariya was taken into custody, and has since been charged with manslaughter. His case is now underway in the Jaffa Military Court.
