Nimr Hammad, political adviser to Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, and the PA’s “ambassador” to Italy, died Thursday at the age of 78 after a “long chronic illness.”
Hammad was hospitalized at the American University Medical Center in Beirut at the time of his death. Abbas extended his condolences to the family. The late adviser is also to be buried in al-Shuhada cemetery in Beirut.
Hammad also served as the Palestinian Authority’s director of media and communications after having been directed by Abbas in 2008 to supervise the WAFA news agency and the Palestine Broadcasting Corporation.
Prior to his service with Abbas, Hammad served as political adviser to the late PLO terror chief Yasser Arafat.
