Forensics examine a bus after a bus bombing in Bat Yam. Feb. 20, 2025.

A mass-casaulty terror attack was averted last week thanks to the vigilance of Adi Jenga, a 26-year-old resident of Bat Yam, who spotted a bomb on a bus and acted swiftly to save lives.

On Thursday evening, Adi was riding Dan Bus Line 42 when she noticed an abandoned bag with Arabic writing on it. Something about it seemed off.

“I debated if I was just being paranoid, but something didn’t feel right,” she told Israel’s Channel 12 News. Trusting her instincts, she took a closer look and saw what appeared to be fuses. Without hesitation, she alerted the driver, who immediately stopped the bus and evacuated all passengers.

Despite the public praise that followed, Adi remains humble. “I don’t see myself as a hero. I just did what felt right. I’m grateful I noticed it in time and that no one was hurt,” she said. Speaking to Ynet, she added, “I was a messenger of God. I’m happy I was able to save people.”

The bomb she found was part of a larger, coordinated terror campaign targeting Israelis riding on public transportation. Two buses exploded in related incidents, and bombs were found on two more buses. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) quickly responded, arresting three individuals on Friday, including at least one PA Arab, and one Jewish Israeli suspected of driving a terrorist to Tel Aviv. Reports indicate that the Arab suspect was in Israel illegally. But the fact that the terrorists were able to plant bombs on at least five buses was a massive security failure by the Shin Bet. There is a gag order on any further details of the events and investigation.

In response to the attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a “massive” counter-terrorism operation in Judea and Samaria to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent future attacks.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has barred its staff and their families from using Israeli public buses and light rail for the next two weeks as a security precaution.
