Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is ready to Iran’s first human astronaut, according to his regime’s official media outlet, only two days after Western media cast doubt on whether Iran actually sent a monkey into space, as it claimed.
The Islamic Republic News Agency, quoted by the Associated Press, said that Ahmadinejad is willing to sacrifice his life to help Iran’s space program and launch a manned satellite before the end of the decade.
Two years ago, Iran said it launched a rocket with a mouse, a turtle and worms. This week, Iran claimed the launch of the monkey, which Ahmadinejad wants to replace with himself.
Western media questioned the claim of the satellite launch with a monkey because pictures published by Iran showed two distinctly different monkeys.
Iran offered an easy explanation – officials simply sent out a set of pictures with the wrong monkey.
