The need for airport security is slowly becoming an issue that is better understood in the United States, although most airports have yet to learn how to implement advanced Israeli procedures.
A 62-year-old man attacked a Transportation Security Administration agent at a New Orleans airport on Friday night. Richard White was carrying a bag packed with six homemade firebombs (Molotov cocktails) and several smoke bombs, as well as a machete and wasp spray.
The suspect was shot three times by an airport law enforcement officer as he chased the TSA agent with a machete, after spraying her in the face with the wasp spray.
Officials said in a news conference following the incident that it was not clear what prompted the attack. White, who was taken to a local hospital with three gunshot wounds, is allegedly known to be a devout member of the Jehova’s Witness sect. He also refused some medical procedures due to his faith.
