He could easily have come out in support of Obama’s attack. He could have been drumming his support for an attack as soon as his own IDF experts have concluded that the Syrians are using chemical weapons, several months ago.
The fact is, Israel’s best interest is in America staying out of the war, and President Obama’s insistence that—as Jon Stewart put it—Syria must bomb using only organic, not chemical weapons, is as bizarre and potentially dangerous as anything perpetrated by both GW Bush and his successor. Also, when Netanyahu wants to be heard in America, he gets heard – and I don’t recall seeing him revving up the drum section in support of attacking Assad.
So, The Nation is committed to a scenario where Israel and AIPAC are dragging Obama, kicking and screaming, to war – whether the facts support this or not.
But why would The Drudge Report make a leftist hack’s claim his main headline for hours? Why push this conspiracy theory which, under the current circumstances, could only lead to open expressions of antisemitism?
