Residents of Kibbutz Alumim in the northwestern Negev quickly summoned firefighters on Wednesday evening when they spotted smoke rising on the outskirts of their community.
An arson terror balloon from Gaza had landed in the dry brush and exploded, immediately setting the shrubbery ablaze.
Alumim is located in the Sdot Negev Regional Council district in southern Israel and is home to some 500 people. The kibbutz offers 14 guest suites for the religious community year round, and is home to a number of artists as well.
The area is known for the popular “Darom Adom Festival” when the beautiful red poppies blossom each year in the south.
