Senior Israeli security official Amos Gilad told Israeli Army Radio on Sunday morning that Syria’s chemical weapons are still secure despite concerns that Syrian president Bashar Assad will transfer his arsenal to Hizbullah in the event of his defeat in a bloody two year civil war.
Fears have arisen that Assad will attempt to use the weapons to defeat his enemies in Syria. Israel has expressed its concern that Assad will transfer the weapons to Israel’s sworn enemy, the Iranian-backed terror organization Hizbullah, which has situated itself close to Israel’s border with Lebanon and allied itself with Assad’s regime.
