The Jaysh al-Adel Sunni terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has carried out two other similar attacks in the past two weeks – one in which a Revolutionary Guards officer was killed and another in which eight IRGC officers were wounded.

The Sistan-Baluchistan region is populated by Sunni separatists who oppose the Shi’ite regime in Tehran.
