Esther Eizenkott, mother of the next Chief of Staff: "He consults a rabbi in Jerusalem."

It has been a long time since an IDF Chief of Staff can be called “modest”and does not run after power and money. Recent top IDF commanders have competed against each other to see who could be more conceited.

Unlike others, he lives modestly.

A secular IDF Chief of Staff who consults a rabbi, does not brag about it and does not own three fancy houses, is a mensch.

His mother Esther said he respects religion and feels close to Judaism.

Eizenkott’s modesty has family roots. When his mother heard the news, she said she was happy “but not proud, God forbid.” She added, “He should be healthy with lots of blessings.”

His older brother Oded told Kikar Shabbat,” The People of Israel can relax and fell calm. It will be good.”

On Shabbat in Eilat, the rumor clinic was working overtime and people had heard about Eizenkott’s appointment. They approached Esther Eizenkott and said, “Mazal tov,” to which she responded, ”Mazal tov to the State of Israel and to the IDF.”

Amen.
