US Congress has threatened to cut military and financial funding to Egypt, in light of the recent crackdown on non-governmental organizations and other pro-democracy groups in Egypt.

Last week, Sam LaHood, director of the International Republican Institute in Egypt and son of US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, was prevented from boarding an international flight out of Cairo.

Egypt’s military receives $1.3 billion a year from the United States.
