The killer of 39-year-old Otniel resident Daphna Meir, z’l, was convicted in a military court, the IDF spokesperson announced Tuesday.
A 16-year-old resident of the Palestinian Authority town of Yatta at the time he murdered the wife and mother of six, the Arab terrorist attacked Meir in her kitchen this past January.
Meir, a nurse in the neurosurgery unit at Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva, tried to fight him off as he stabbed her in the head and upper body. Three of her children were home at the time, and heard the sounds of their mother being attacked.
The screams of her oldest daughter at home at the time prompted the terrorist to flee, while Meir called security forces and reported the attack. Medics came promptly but were unable to save her.
Meir was known for her strength and courage, but also for her serenity and leadership in the community. Two of her six children were foster children. Her husband told visitors during the shiva mourning period that the family wanted to focus on healing and “lifting up the Jewish people,” rather than avenging her death.
