President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu meeting in the Oval Office, September 30, 2013. Now they'll do it again, and Obama will lean on Netanyahu to push a framework that neither side believes in.

The PLO Golda Meir, Hanan Ashrawi, rightfully expressed her reservations regarding the whole “framework” idea: “Why have it?” she asked. “Is it just to maintain a semblance of progress? Is it meant to buy more time? Or is it not to admit we have failed?”

She usually makes my skin crawl—but she’s absolutely on the money here. The peace talks were doomed to failure from day one, at this point the aim is to put better makeup on the corpse in time for the viewing.
