Fat busters who participated in the Dubai Your Weight in Gold campaign, are set to receive a total of 35 pounds of gold worth about just under $800,000, Gulf News reported.
More than 10,000 residents participated in the 30-day program, launched by Dubai Municipality from July 19 to August 16.
“The one-month-long health awareness campaign has become a global media spotlight as it has been discussed in over 198 countries and more than 100 languages, boosting the fame of Dubai, the city that lives in the future, to new unexpected horizons,” said Eng Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
Participants had to lose a minimum of 2 kg (4 lbs.) in weight to earn one gram of gold for every kilo of weight lost. Those who lost five kilograms and above were eligible to get two grams of gold for each kilo, and three grams of gold for every kilogram for those who lost 10 kilograms and above.
“The attractive schemes and prizes must have pushed the public to join, but one thing is absolutely sure: the majority of the participants were waiting for a real push that can totally change them to a healthy new life,” Lootah explained.
