Mahmoud Abbas’s political party, Fatah, had the image of a mountain of Jewish skulls plastered on its Facebook page. The image was uploaded coincident with Fatah’s 50th anniversary. What a lovely way to celebrate an anniversary!
But when the television news channel CNN asked Fatah’s spokesman Mahmoud al-Aloul about the photo, the party’s mouthpiece claimed Fatah did not design the image.
Aloul also told CNN that the person who posted it “is currently being asked to remove it. The image and the text do not reflect the opinions of Fatah.”
The picture is no longer on the Fatah Facebook page.
Apparently no explanation was sought or provided for why the picture was posted in the first place, or why it was up for days and not removed until the international media began asking questions.
But of course it is entirely appropriate that Fatah was celebrating its 50th anniversary by posting a picture of dead Jews. Fatah traces its birth to its first major attack against Israel on January 1, 1965.
Fatah is the moderate terrorist party representing Palestinian Arabs.
As Ofir Gendelman, the Arab Affairs spokesperson for the Israeli government pointed out, maybe the photo will give people a clue that Fatah is not as moderate as most foreign officials claim.
