Many people don’t even have to answer the question because it never comes to mind. It is comfortable psychologically for Jews to love Israel from afar. They cannot live comfortable as Jews in the Diaspora without knowing that Israel exists.
I am certain, as are many sociologists, that the intensifying efforts of American Jews to preach what Israel should and not do, particularly concerning religious pluralism and a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, reflects total insecurity of Jews in the Diaspora for whom Israel stirs up the Jewish soul.
They are uncomfortable as Jews when Israel does not behave in a way that is acceptable to their Diaspora values and, no less important, their governments.
They are dedicated to making Israel safe for their psychological comfort of living wherever they do, so long as it is not in Israel.
Everyone has an excuse or reason to live where he or she is outside of Israel. I no longer pretend which one is more valid or less valid than others.
I know that I had a single reason to move to Israel.
It is the home for Jews, and home is who I am.
