Iran’s underground Fordow uranium nuclear enrichment plant “will never be shut down because … our national duty is to be able to defend our nuclear and vital centers against an enemy threat,” a senior parliament official told an Iranian news agency Sunday.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who is the head of the legislature’s national security and foreign policy committee, told the Iran Students’ News Agency, an independently run outlet that is faithful to the regime, “This suggestion (shutting down Fordow) is meant to help the Zionist regime.”

Western nations reportedly have prepared to offer Iran a deal to lighten up on sanctions if it begins to shut down the plant at Fordow.

The Islamic Republic continues to ignore damn including evidence from surveillance flights that it has carried out tests that are conclusively linked with developing a nuclear weapon.

Press TV, one of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s mouthpieces, quoted a “political analyst” Sunday as saying that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has made it clear “that under no circumstances would we ever pursue nuclear weapons, but theoretically speaking, even if we were, Western countries are in no position to block Iran.”
