Neither Israel nor the Palestinian Authority will accept a peace agreement given the current political situation and mood, former Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) chief Yuval Diskin said on Israel’s Army Radio station Monday.
He cited both Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as being “powerless’ in their leadership and suggested that deeper involvement by Jordan and Egypt would help Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas ‘s position.
Diskin also warned that frustration on the part of Palestinian Authority Arabs could lead to en escalation in violence.
However, Arabs in Judea and Samaria appear to be more frustrated with Abbas than with Israel and stalled peace talks. The PA Public Workers’ Union announced Sunday it will launch a general strike on Wednesday to press its demand for cost of living increases to the wages of all public employees.
