The Knesset approved on Monday night, the second and third reading of a bill which would allow women who choose to give birth at home, to also receive maternity grants, according to a Walla report.

Until now, only women who gave birth in hospitals could receive the grant.

The law will require that a midwife or doctor be present at the birth, and report back to the Ministry of Health that the everything was done according to the Ministry of Health’s regulations.

The bill passed 35-0.
