IDF troops stationed on the Golan Heights on Wednesday mistakenly opened fired at a civilian aircraft, which they thought had infiltrated from Syria.

The IDF stated that the troops fired at the aircraft after it identified it as a “hostile” aircraft that flew in from Syria and “posed a real threat.”

The troops fired at the plane with their light weapons but ceased fire after they realized their mistake.

A bullet hit one of the plane’s wings.

The IDF stated it launched an investigation into this “severe” incident.
